Every block, a funeral

COFFIN DERBY is a play-to-earn race on Ethereum with 5,000 dead racers: pixel-art coffins with a skeleton at the wheel. The chain sets the rhythm. Each Ethereum block is one funeral, and a funeral is one race. Nothing runs off-chain: no server, no keeper required, no oracle.

What is live in v1. The burial (mint) with the free-first-of-block rule, the derby (entry, per-block pot, weighted draw, bounty, claim), the purse fed by the mint, on-chain metadata and traits, the owner reserve. Not in v1: secondary-market royalties enforcement, breeding or upgrades. Contracts are unaudited. Randomness comes from the hash of the block after the funeral: the block proposer of that block can in theory influence it, which matters only when a pot is worth more than a block reward.

The burial (mint)

5,000 racers, one per transaction, minted by bury(). The owner may reserve at most 100 (gas only) for the crew and giveaways, inside the 5,000.
First coffin of each block is buried free. Every following burial in the same block pays the mint price. Send 0 ETH to race for the free slot (the transaction reverts if someone was there first), or send the full price to be buried whatever happens: the excess is refunded when you turn out to be first.
Of every paid burial, a share (purseBps, 50 % at launch) goes straight to the derby purse. The rest accrues to the treasury.
Traits are computed on-chain from the genesis seed and the token id; the metadata is a data: URI, only the image lives on IPFS (freezable by the owner).

The derby

Enter. Any holder enters a coffin into the funeral of the current block with enter(id) or several with enterMany. The first entry of the block is free; every other pays the entry fee. A coffin runs once per block; 64 coffins at most per funeral.
Draw. The seed is the hash of the block after the funeral, unknown to everyone who entered. Each coffin's chance is its Speed divided by the sum of the Speeds in the race.
Prize. The winner gets the block's pot minus the rake, plus a bounty equal to 0.05 % of the purse. A lone free entrant still wins the bounty: racing is never for nothing.
Settle. Any entry settles the previous funerals automatically; anyone can also call settle(n). A funeral nobody settled within 256 blocks expires: paid entrants are refunded in full, no bounty is paid.
Claim. Prizes and refunds are credited to the racer's address and withdrawn with claim().

Where the ETH goes

95 % of the block pot to the winner
5 % rake to the treasury

Plus the bounty: 0.05 % of the purse per resolved funeral. The purse is fed by half of every paid burial and by anyone who sends ETH to the derby. It pays a fraction of itself each time, so it never runs dry: it just shrinks toward the rate at which it is refilled.

The COFFIN token

COFFIN is the token of the derby: 1,000,000,000 fixed supply, all placed single-sided in the Uniswap v4 ETH/COFFIN pool at launch, no presale, no team allocation, no minting. The token itself has no transfer tax. It is tied to the game in two ways:

The trade tax feeds the purse. The pool carries a Uniswap v4 tax hook: 15 % buy / 15 % sell for the first 60 seconds after the first swap, then 5 % / 5 % forever, collected in ETH. 40 % of every tax payment is sent to the Derby purse (at the 5 % floor that is 2 % of volume), the rest to the launch wallet. More trading, bigger bounties.
Winners earn COFFIN. Every resolved funeral also pays the winner 1,000 COFFIN from a reward reserve held by the Derby. The reserve starts at zero, because the whole supply is in the pool: anyone can fund it with fundTokens. When it is empty, funerals pay ETH only, and this page says so.

Epitaph (16) and Cause of death (16): flavour, no effect on the race.
Speed 1-9: 40 % roll 1-3, 35 % roll 4-6, 20 % roll 7-8, 5 % roll a 9. Speed is the weight in every draw.
